Medea’s Weekly Tonic for Mind Body & Soul: Viewing death through the spiritual lens

Losing a loved one is one of the most challenging times that anyone can go through in life. On a positive note, it is also the time which can draw one closer to their own spirituality. I lost a parent recently and while there is a lot going on in the physical, I was reminded to look to the spiritual and to be aware that although my father’s form had passed on, his soul was very much alive, well, and free. We may mourn the loss of the physical presence of someone in our lives, but that does not mean their presence in our lives ceases to exist. Quite the contrary, their presence in our lives returns to its truest form which is the spiritual. It is also our own spirituality, in other words our relationship with our own inner being, that helps us navigate the physical during these testing times. Everyone copes with the loss of a loved one in their own way and by going inwards you not only become aware of a much wider support system, you also become more consciously and spiritually aware of the true self of the very being whose loss you are mourning physically. If you are in mourning, it’s also important to remember that others around you may have expectations about what you should be “feeling” and how you should be. Knowing your true self helps you to discern what is being projected onto you from others and how best to handle that energy. And what’s most important during these times, as with any other time, is that you always stay true to you.
