Tune of the Day for Saturday 4 July 2020: When You Are Who You Are by Gil Scott Heron

Gil Scott Heron’s wise words on When You Are Who You Are is a message about being yourself and to quit trying to be someone you’re not. Understand that it is very natural for you to be who you are, but it is likely you run into “difficulties” when you try to be something that is oh so very unnatural and abnormal to you. As the lyrics go: “People never seem to want to be themselves, So they end up running in circles confused, Yeah, confused, Just like everyone else. Every morning when you wake up you put on a new disguise, Just how long did you think it would take me to realise, That the things you wore ain’t real, You never just how you feel. When you could be so very beautiful, When you are who you are, Yeah, when you are who you are, yeah, Oh, when you are who you are, yeah.” Be comfortable both with and in yourself.

Tune of the Day is a divinatory series here on this blog where I share some musical vibes. Music is a very powerful tool with numerous messages to be gleaned from a tune, whether it’s got vocals on it or it’s purely instrumentals. It also has massive healing benefits too.

Whether you have an ear for music or are simply looking for divination of a different medium altogether, music most certainly moves us and offers guidance. And just like with tarot, music will have different meanings to different readers or in this case listeners. With each Tune of the Day I provide a general overview of some of the messages I’ve got from the track, but of course you may listen to it and get different signs or symbols. Enjoy!
